A new island has appeared in the South Pacific Ocean the size of France, Portugal and Spain. It is an increasing waste island where plastic debris accumulates. Plastic rubbish, from drinks bottles and fishing nets to the ubiquitous carrier bag, end up in the world’s oceans. These are almost impossible to clean up, because plastic does not bio-degrade, it only breaks down physically, and so persists in the environment for possibly hundreds of years. I examinated the material plastic in three projects.
The first project shows the role of plastic in my life: I took a picture of every single plastic product in my household. Concluding that plastic is involved in almost everything that we use on a daily basis, we depend on our plastic.
